SPEED-OF-SOUND MEASUREMENT IN GASEOUS PHASE FOR NOVEL REFRIGERANTS BY USING A SPHERICAL RESONATOR

The speed-of-sound in the gaseous phase for hydrofluoroolefin refrigerants was measured on the basis of the acoustic resonance method using a spherical cavity. The speed-of-sound can be determined by measuring the resonant frequency response in the spherical resonator. By correcting some perturbations such as the thermal boundary layer and the deformation of the spherical cavity, an expanded relative uncertainty of the speed-of-sound measurements is estimated to be 0.01 %. Based on the measured speed-of-sound data, the acoustic-virial equation was formulated and the isobaric ideal-gas heat capacity was determined with an expanded relative uncertainty of 0.1 %.
