INVESTIGATION OF HYGROSCOPIC PROPERTIES OF OKRA BUST FIBERS UNDER THERMAL CONDITION
The hygroscopic property of the Okra bast fibers (Abelmoschus esculentus) was investigated under ambient and thermal conditions by using ordinary Gravimetric absorption method. The gains in water content in the fibers at constant relative humidity were measured as a function of exposure time at different temperatures. The various parameters of sorption process of the fibers such as diffusion coefficient, solubility coefficient and permeability coefficient were estimated. Corresponding thermodynamic sorption parameters of the fiber such as activation energy of diffusion, activation energy of permeability, change of enthalpy and change of entropy were evaluated. The effects of water absorptions on the structural characteristics of the sample under thermal conditions were also studied by using XRD, IR, TG -DTG and DSC methods. Structural and kinetic parameters were analyzed.
