DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTERFACIAL THERMAL CONDUCTANCE DATABASE

A database containing thermal conductance of more than 1000 interfaces has been developed and opened to the Internet access. The interfacial thermal conductance are computed at room temperature using the phonon diffusion mismatch model based on the crystal structure and sound velocity of the component materials. In order to help users correlate the interfacial thermal conductance to the crystal structure and other properties of the component materials, the database provides a direct connection to the NIMS Inorganic Materials Database through the Internet. Plotting the interfacial thermal conductance vs. the ratio of Debye temperature of the component materials, we can see that when the ratio of Debye temperature increase, which means that the difference between the Debye temperatures of the two component materials increases, the interfaces tends to have a low interfacial thermal conductance. This database is expected to be used in thermal design of nano composite materials and electronic devices.
