Fabrication of oleophobic hollow microspheres and their application in anti-burning protein foam

In this paper, oleophobic hollow microspheres were successfully fabricated through the modification by fluoroalkylsilane. The successful change from lipophilic to oelophobic surface was confirmed by the contact angle measurement. The calculated contact angle for kerosene is 118°. Three-phase foam was directly fabricated by oleophobic hollow microspheres. Outstanding improvement in the stability and anti-burning properties of three-phase foam on oil were achieved through the oleophobic modification. The improvement was ascribed to the formation of stable skeletal structure in the existence of oleophobic hollow microspheres. Thermal radiation to the underlayer was efficiently blocked by the protective layer on the surface of oil. The oleophobic hollow microspheres showed promising application in extinguishing oil tank fire.
