INFLUENCE OF NANO-SCALE POWDERS ON ELECTRIC CONDUCTIVITY OF NANOFLUID IN REFRIGERATING SYSTEM

In order to ensure the safety of refrigerating systems using nanofluid, experiments were done on the electric conductivities of nanofluids used in refrigerating systems. The nano-scale powders in the experimented nanofluids include four kinds of nanoparticles and four kinds of carbon nanotubes while the host fluids include R113 refrigerant, RB68 lubricating oil and the mixture of R113 and RB68. Influence of the material type and physical dimension of nano-scale powders as well as influence of the material type and temperature of the host fluids on electric conductivities were covered in the investigation. The measured electric conductivities of nanofluids are significantly higher than the predicted ones by Maxwell model and Hamilton-Crosser model. The electric conductivities of nanofluids in practical refrigerating systems are much less than the maximal allowable electric conductivity of fluids in refrigerating systems, meaning the nanofluids may be used in refrigerating systems safely.
