CALCULATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE SOLUBILITY IN SATURATED LIQUID METHANE

To liquefy natural gas at temperature higher than that in the ordinary liquid natural gas (LNG) plants can reduce the energy consumption for liquefaction, and can simplify or even cancel the CO2 removal units before natural gas is cooled. Thus, it is important to evaluate the solubility of solid carbon dioxide in saturated liquid methane at different temperatures. The regular solution method and the equations-of-state (EOS) are used to calculate the solubility of solid carbon dioxide in saturated liquid methane in this paper. For the regular solution method, the regular solution theory and the modified Scatchard-Hildebrand equation are adopted on the basis of the ideal solution hypothesis, and an empirical equation is applied to amend the results near the critical temperature. For the EOS method, PR EOS and SRK EOS are selected for the solid-liquid phase equilibria calculation. The calculation results are compared with the experiment data from Davis, and it certifies that both the empirical equation and the EOS method can be recommended for this kind of solubility calculation.
