FLMMABILITY OF BINARY MIXTURES OF DIMETHYL ETHER WITH SEVERAL INERT COMPONENTS
As a refrigerant, dimethyl ether is extraordinary friendly to environment for a zero ODP and GWP. However, wide use of dimethyl ether is held back by its flammability. Flammability limit is one of the most important parameters for expressing the fire and explosion hazards of combustible gases. The experimental system used in the present study follows that of ASHRAE method which is the revised version of ASTM-E681.The explosion vessel is a 12-L spherical glass flask. The experimental results are determined by visual observation. The absolute deviation of the gas mixture ratio is less than 0.5%. Inert gas dilution is an important technique to ensure safety in handling combustible gases. Experimental study of the inert effect on flammability limits of dimethyl ether was carried out. The inert components consist of HFC134a,HFC227ea,HFC125,HCFC22, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The flammability ranges of binary mixtures were illustrated, and their inert effects compared. The test results are of great value for the application of dimethyl ether as a green refrigerant.
