DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL APPARATUS FOR MEASURMENT OF GAS SOLUBILITIES IN PURE AND MIXED SOLVENTS

Experimental apparatus for measurement of gas solubility with static method have been newly developed for pure solvents and solvent mixtures. Solubility of oxygen in organic pure 12 solvents (Water, ethanol, methanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, hexane, cyclohexane, dichloromethane, acetone, benzene and toluene) were carried out at 298.15K and 101.3kPa. The gas solubilities were expressed as Ostwald coefficient. The accuracy for gas solubility measurement were ± 1.5% for pure solvent and the reproducibility for each experiment were ±0.63. Good agreement between observed gas solubility and literature one were confirmed in this work. Furthermore, solubilities of oxygen have been also measured for ethanol-hexane and 1-propnole-hexane systems over the full range of composition by a static method. Both the excess Ostwald coefficient and the excess volume of the mixed solvent showed similar dependencies on the volume fraction. Furthermore, the excess Ostwald coefficient on the basis of mole fraction which express the nonideality of gas solubility in nonideal solutions were defined, and they were expressed by a polynomial equation of the Redlich-Kister(1948) type.
