RADIATION CHARACTERISTICS OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE TRANSLUCENT THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are widely used to reduce the temperature of the metal parts applied in advanced gas turbine. Spectral radiation characteristics of the coating surface are necessary to realize accurate non-contact temperature measurements, radiation flux evaluation and erode monitoring. In this paper, yttriastabilized zirconia (YSZ) described by 4-band spectral band model of absorbing and scatting properties was used as the coating material of the metal vane. The coupled radiation and conduction heat transfer in the coatings were numerically calculated by Monte Carlo and control-volume method to obtain the temperature distributions within the coating. Then we investigated the distributions of spectral emissivity of thermal barrier coating under different conditions (the material properties, the boundary condition, the temperature distribution and the angle). The above analyses provide the application data of radiation characteristics of the high-temperature translucent thermal barrier coatings for the applications of temperature and radiation flux measurements.
