Investigation on Spectral Properties of Random Rough Surface

Spectral properties of microscaled rough surface are of importance for both academic researches and applications. The objective of this paper is to develop a theoretic model of the influence factors on the spectral properties of random rough surface. The Finite Difference Domain Time (FDTD) algorithm is used to simulate the energy propagation process and to predict the spectral properties. The Maxwell equations are discretized to finite-difference expressions with the central difference. In order to find a way to control the thermal radiation process of the surfaces, this paper examines the effects of different factors such as surface structure, incident angle, observe angle, and material inherent properties. To quantitively study the angle distribution of the energy flow reflected from the surface, the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) is introduced. A conclusion is drown that the factors mentioned above affect the spectral properties of objects in varying degrees, which is possible to control the thermal radiation process of the surfaces by means of mainipulating certain influencing factor.
