Simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of SiO2 nano-powder using 3ω method

A 3ω method was developed for the simultaneous determination of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of powder materials. The principle was presented in the frequency domain. The 3ω experimenta1 system was established. To evaluate the validity and accuracy of the developed experimental system we performed measurements in water and alcohol with known properties. The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of SiO2 powder at different particle diameters, different particle densities and different temperatures were measured using the established system. At room temperature, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of SiO2 powder were shown to increase with temperature. At the same time, it decreases with the increased particle diameters. The results demonstrated that the established experimental system can be used to effectively measure the conductivity of powder materials.
