A Case Study on Fault Diagnosis of Wind Turbine Main Bearing via Vibration Analysis

As the rapid development of wind power industry all over the world, severe maintenance cost and issues of wind turbines follow up, troubling manufacturers, developers, and operators. Owners wish to be more informed of the health and condition of their assets, so that they can plan and mitigate their risks as their turbines transition from warranty and mature throughout their life expectancy. Owners, operators, and service organizations are increasingly acknowledging the value that condition monitoring offers in reducing the risk of catastrophic failures, while at the same time minimizing unplanned downtime, negating time based maintenance and generally optimizing the most efficient operation. This article as a case study, elaborated the detail failure process and diagnosis methods via vibration analysis of a main bearing on a wind turbine which had been running in its 3rd year, which approved the effectiveness of vibration analysis as predictive maintenance technology for wind turbines.
