Effect of root systems of mulberry on soil electrical conductivity of purple soil

Mulberry forest field was chose as research object at Shibao town, Zhong county, Chongqing city. Soil profile dug, soil samples were collected at each 10 cm depth of soil, and after mulberry roots and soil were isolated from samples, experiments were conducted: the length, bulk, surface area and number of tips of mulberry root had been analyzed by WinRhizo (root analysis software), and soil electrical conductivity had been measured. The results showed that compared to the control, root systems of mulberry significantly increased electrical conductivity of mulberry fields, and that from top to bottom, soil electrical conductivity values added were 24.31 μs/cm、 -9.8 μs/cm、 2.61 μs/cm、0.7 μs/cm, respectively, and that the small fine roots (≤1mm in diameter) exerted dominant influence on soil electrical conductivity of mulberry fields, which contributed to improve soil electrical conductivity of the purple soil so as to promote soil erosion resistance.
