Review on the Ecological Benefits of the Conversion of Cropland to Forest and Grass Project
The conversion of cropland to forest and grass project is one of the most important strategy measures of China to improve ecological environment and implement Western development. Concepts of previous definitions were induced and concluded. The current research situations of the projects ecological benefits were stated from soil and water conservation, soil physical and chemical properties improvement. water resource conservation, atmosphere purification and biodiversity increasing respectively. Shortages of the current studies were also analyzed. Based on these analysis. the future tasks, being needed to gain a better understanding, were pointed out :1) establishment of the uniform and accepted ecological benefits evaluation system;2) ecological benefits studies on large scale;3) researches mainly based on the ecological theory. These researches will provide new methods and theoretical bases for estimating ecological benefits of the conversion of cropland to forest and grass project.
