Soil and Water Erosion Development Tendency of Northern Arid Regions of China in Recent Five Years

Soil Erosion in Northern Arid Region is the most serious in China, especially in Loess Plateau. Its important to do research on the soil erosion dynamic evolution in Northern Arid Regions of China in recent five years for people to master the law of the local soil erosion, approach the erosion mechanism and management methods and promote the ecological environment construction. The thesis took 6 prownces in China as the study area (Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi and Shanxi). First, established the model to study the trend of soil erosion area evolution and calculate the soil erosion variable-area in recent five years. Then did a comparative study on the important changes of the land use types associated with soil erosion in recent five years, which showed the increasing trend of the woodland, grassland and water area and the decreasing trend of farmland on the whole. At last, it analyzed management effects of soil erosion in the study area in recent years. According to the research, the soil erosion area was 5022.9 x104hm2 in end of 2008,113. 12 x 104hm2 absolute value diminished and 2.20% relative value diminished compared with the soil erosion area in end of 2003.
