Contrastive analysis on vegetation restoration under different measures of desertification control in a Semi-Arid Region of Northwestern China
In order to study vegetation conditions under different measures of desertification control in a semi-arid region Northwest of China, this paper take Yanchi County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region as the research subject. The sample line approach was quoted according to the biotope gradient to investigate vegetation and soil. The sample plots were distributed according to different measures of vegetation protection and restoration in population and community scales. The sample plots were selected in 3 different types of control measures of converting farmland to forests, abandoned land, and artificial fencing (including: the old closure area, the new closure area and control area). Indices analysis of species and community was analyzed by means of ecological statistics software SPSS and so on. Shannon-Wiener index, Simpson index, evenness index and richness index and meteorological data of many years were also used to analyze plants diversity. The results showed: (1) converting farmland to forests, vegetation restoration was fast in this area after the implementation of the measures; vegetation communities would be succession and gradually stabilized. (2) Abandoned land, vegetation communities would become stable and vegetation regeneration decreased. (3) Artificial fencing is divided into the old closure area, the new closure area and control area, in a sense, enclosure could increase plant diversity, in the old closure area vegetation was gradually becoming perennial, the spatial heterogeneity of plants significantly increased and the value of grazing decreased. In the new closure area vegetation restoration and vegetation diversity increased significantly, community composition changed regularly. Vegetation diversity of the control area in a non-equilibrium steady state has been lower than the old. After years of treatment, vegetation condition under these measures have been restored well, the effect of artificial fencing and converting farmland to forests is much better in this area, suitable for local conditions.
