Farmer households Fuel Substitution:A Buffer of Ecological Restoration in Changtings Soil Erosion Region

Firewood collection, which leads to degradation of vegetable, water loss and soil erosion, is the farmers daily activity. By analyzing the change of historical water loss and soil erosion area, the construction and thermal efficiency change of farmers fuel, this study confirms that woodland is the primary land-use style which results in water loss and soil erosion, farmers average efficient thermal value is 1957.5 MJ·a-1 per capita, and the biomass growth for firewood is 7767 kg·hm-2·a-1 in Changting County. The paper analyzes the volume variances of farmers fuel consumption between the soil conservation region and non-measure region, and calculates farmers fuel substitution contribution by using Ecological Footprint (EF) method. The results show that the woodland EF of fuel substitution in soil conservation region is 3747 hectare, including 1558 hectare (41.6%) of biogas, in Changting County in 2009. It suggests that fuel substitution plays a crucial role in soil conservation region, some incentive countermeasures about fuel substitution are proposed.
