LOFA Analysis of a Modified Liquid-metal Cooled Thermionic Reactor:TOPAZ-II
TOPAZ-II is a liquid-metal cooled space thermionic reactor developed by Russia in 1980s. The liquid-metal coolant loop is driven by a single electromagnetic pump. The electromagnetic pump failure may result in LOFA. Three modified LOFA sequences are analyzed using a thermionic reactor core analytic code-TATRHG(A). The calculations are preliminary. The results show that the reactor can be shut down safely for the third case. Further work needs to be done to do extensively investigation.
