Experimental and numerical studies on free surface behavior of windowless target
The formation and control method of coolant free surface is one of the key technology for the design of windowless target in Accelerator Driven System (ADS). In recent study, experimental and CFD investigations on free surface behavior are performed in a scaled windowless target model by using water as test fluid. The method of laser induced fluorescence is applied for visualization of the flow field inside free surface. Several visualization results are obtained under the Re=30000~50000. Under large Re, an unsteady vortex pair can be observed in the flow field. With the decreasing of Re, the structure of the vortex becomes more turbulent. In addition, CFD simulation is performed under the experimental condition, using LES and kω-SST turbulence models separately. The numerical results of LES model agrees qualitatively well with the experimental dada in the flow field and free surface behavior.
