Study on Moderator Flow Behaviors of a Supercritical Water-Cooled Reactor with a Three-Pass Core Arrangement
Supercritical water-cooled reactor (SCWR) with thermal spectrum needs separate moderator channels and appropriate moderator flow assignment, so as to meet the needs of required moderated core and then improve core neutron-kinetics/thermal-hydraulics performance. In Europe, investigations on SCWR have been integrated into a joint research project, called High Performance Light Water Reactor (HPLWR). Based on a core with a three-step coolant heat up proposed in researches on HPLWR, several corresponding moderator flow allocation schemes in three passes have been put forward. In view of different schemes, appropriate thermal-hydraulic model have been established, so as to achieve parameter distributions of coolant and moderator in different regions, which would been feeded back to DRAGON code to calculate neutron-kinetics parameters and achieve the radial power distribution of the super cell in different regions. Analyses about these different calculating results have been done, which can reflects corresponding moderating performance, thereby obtain appropriate moderator flow allocation scheme with comparatively better moderating performance. This study has been focused on core moderating performance influenced by moderator flow based on recent HPLWR, so better moderator flow allocation scheme has been achieved, which would provides well design foundation in further studies on neutron-kinetics/thermal-hydraulics performance of SWCR.
