Title of the Paper: Application of an Appendix K Version of RELAP5-3D on Auditing LBLOCA Calculations for Plants of ABWR, BWR/4 and PWR in Taiwan
Auditing calculation has been identified to be an effective means to support quantitative evaluation of vendor’s licensing safety analysis. An Appendix K version of RELAP5-3D has been successfully developed and was applied to perform auditing calculations of limiting large break loss of coolant accident (LBLOCA) for plants of ABWR, BWR/4 and PWR in Taiwan. The results from auditing calculations by using RELAP5-3D/K were compared to results from vendor’s safety analysis reports (SARs). For the Maanshan PWR plant, auditing calculation was applied to verify LOCA analysis performed by Westinghouse to support VATNTAGE+fuel upgrade. While for the Lungmen ABWR plant, auditing calculation was performed to verify the LBLOCA analysis presented in FSAR performed by General Electric. As for the Chinshan BWR/4 plant, auditing calculation was applied to verify the licensing LBLOCA analysis performed by Framatome ANP for stretch power uprate (SPU) application. Comparisons indicate that RELAP5-3D/K is a powerful tool to support independent auditing calculation and vendor’s licensing LOCA analyses have been successfully verified by using RELAP5-3D/K.
