Lifting Characteristic Study of the Control Rod Drive Mechanism
The study is concentrated on the lifting characteristics of the control rod mechanism (CRDM), one of the critical components in a nuclear power plant. Firstly, equations of the electric circuit and the magnetic circuit are set up. Then based on the lifting process analysis of the control rod, the coupled magnetic-electric-mechanical equations both for the static status and the dynamic status are derived. The analytical method is utilized to obtain the current and the time when the lift starts. The numerical simulation is utilized to obtain the time the lifting needs, the impact velocity and the impact acceleration when the lifting ends. The study is mainly on lifting characteristics with different design gaps between the lifting magnet and the lifting armature and its effect on the lifting characteristics. Work in this paper is meaningful for the CRDM design, the step load calculation and the site fault diagnosis.
