High-Definition RELAP5-3D Application (RELAP5-HD)
The RELAP5-HD is an application of the INL’s RELAP5-3D model in the GSE’s real-time executive (SimEexc) system. The product name is highlighted by HD (High Definition). Values of all RELAP model internal variables can be monitored and updated through use of their symbolic names interactively or in real-time. The RELAP model is no longer a black box. It is also straightforward to interface RELAP models with external boundary system models. The HD technology employs a robust multi-server technology. Multiple RELAP systems can be run in parallel as servers, and synchronized with a client, which may reside in other simulator vendor executives. Model fidelity and numerical robustness of the INL’s RELAP5-3D version have been improved to expand the modeling capability and to meet real-time simulation needs. The HD platform has been successfully applied to a number of water reactors such as PWRs (CE and Siemens), BWRs (European), and a next generation natural circulation water reactor. In this paper, features of the RELAP5-HD platform will be discussed. The implementation and benchmark against a LOFT deck will also be presented.
