Analysis of generating mechanism of liquid droplet jet stream at the orifice downstream area

Liquid droplets entrained from wave crest of liquid film forming on the pipe wall, which undergoes Kelvin-Helmholtz instability due to steam flow with high velocity, are investigated by means of pipe orifice flow as part of the study of liquid droplet impingement (LDI) corrosion. For this case, the following additional scenario that liquid droplets are generated in the flow can be thought. Liquid film forming upstream the orifice is drifted by steam flow, reaches the orifice aperture and is carried away by high-speed steam flow of the orifice part. In the experiment, qualitative behavior of liquid droplet generation close to the orifice is observed and clarified with varying the liquid film thickness, gas velocity and surface tension of liquid as parameters. In addition, size of liquid droplet and occurrence frequency of entrainment are analyzed by the visualization experiment.
