Accident Sequences Analysis of Chinese ITER Dual Functional Lithium-Lead Test Blanket Module

The Dual-Functional Lithium Lead Test Blanket Module (DFLL-TBM) system in International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is designated to check and validate the liquid blanket relevant technologies for the Chinese fusion DEMO reactor. The objective of the DFLL-TBM safety assessment is to demonstrate that the introduction and operation of the TBM does not add significantly to the risk of the basic ITER machine. Three groups of accidents are judged to cover all accident scenarios envisaged in incidents and accidents involving the TBMs. In this contribution, the accident sequences analysis of the DFLL-TBM was presented. The results showed that the DFLL-TBM had the ability to remove the decay heat by thermal radiation, and the pressurization in vacuum vessel (VV) by helium release had no significant effect on the performance of the VV pressure suppression system. The hydrogen production was insignificant under these accidents. Tritium and activation products releasing from the TBM into the VV was insignificant compared to the total amount mobilized from non-TBM components.
