Research and Practice of Accelerated Ageing Management for Important and Susceptible Components in Nuclear Power Plants
In recent years at Daya Bay NPP and Ling’ao NPP, large quantities of events showed that some important and susceptible components which encountered noticeable degradation or failure far before the expected lifetimes or replacement cycles as a result of relevant accelerating factors, for example, from aspects of operation environment, materiel deficiency, manufacturing process, maintenance strategies and maintenance methods, etc., which are identified as accelerated ageing. A project was launched to investigate accelerated ageing mechanisms and effects, and analyze ageing development trend of important and susceptible components in NPPs, and develop methods for monitoring and mitigating the accelerated ageing issues, including improvements on operation and maintenance (O&M) strategies, and replacement, substitution and modification if necessary, etc. The objective of accelerated ageing management (AAM) is to improve the reliability and availability of important and susceptible components, and guarantee the safety, reliability and efficiency of nuclear power units at the last. This paper firstly introduced the background of AAM in Daya Bay NPP and Ling’ao NPP, and then expounded the connotation of AAM, demonstrated the AAM technical route, work architecture and interface with existing O&M system in NPPs. Some representative application examples of AAM for verifying the rationality and effectiveness of relevant research achievements also were presented. And development prospect of AAM was proposed at the last.
