Upgrades of the Fuel Cycles for the Core Models of the NPP Simulators in South Korea
This paper deals with main results of the fuel cycle upgrades of the core models for 4 nuclear power plant simulators in Korea, as one of the crucial goals of the project, called “Establishment of the Simulator Maintenance Engineering Qualification Program (SMEQP), performed by the KEPCO Research Institute. This paper shows various dynamic characteristics of the core such as the moderator temperature coefficients (MTC), fuel temperature coefficients (FTC), boron worths and control rod worths, of the reference nuclear power plants (Yonggwang unit 1, Ulchin unit 1, Ulchin unit 3, Kori unit 3) and compares its values with those of the nuclear design reports (NDRs)1,2,3,4. For its V&V, 20 to 40 initial conditions (Ics) per a simulator are provided to test the integrity of the core models reflecting the changes of the fuel cycle of the reference plants. And in the beginningof lifecycle (BOL), middle-of-lifecycle (MOL) and end-of-lifecycle (EOL), the updated core models shows the stability and integrity as for the values of main variables like the reactor/generator power, PZR pressure/level and SG pressure/level at the several power states.
