Adsorption and Swelling Behavior of Two Chinese Coals

Carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration in un-minable coal seams and enhanced coal bed methane recovery (CO2-ECBM) has been considered as one of the most promising methods to reduce CO2 emission.Laboratory measurements of gas adsorption capacity and adsorption induced coal swelling under coal seam condition are crucial for accurate predictions of CO2 injection and CH4 production rates. The value of adsorption and swelling for two Chinese anthracites under pressure (0-18 MPa) of CO2 and CH4 and 25-65oC were measured.Generally both the adsorption and swelling ratio decreased as the increase of temperature. The absolute adsorption and swelling ratio for CO2 are much higher than that for CH4
