Activated-char Supported Desulfurization Sorbents with Multiple Active Metal Components for Integrated Cleaning of Coal-derived Gases: A Critical Study
Hot coal gas cleaning is the key part of the development of gasification-based clean coal technologies such as poly-generation.In this paper,an integrated gas cleaning process has been proposed and a novel activated-char supported metal sorbents has been developed which is targeted at the removal of multiple impurities, including sulfur containing species,NOx precursors, mercury and tarry materials. The integration of the gas cleaning process into a polygeneration system is discussed. The sorbents were such prepared so that the active metal components were finely and evenly distributed in the char.In this study the char supported Fe-Mo sorbents were prepared by impregnation of Fe and Mo into a Chinese brown coal following evenly distributed as nano-size particles which have high reactivity.Sulfidation experiments were carried in the temperature range of 650K to 900K at a space velocity of 1000 h-1 using a quartz reactor with simulated coal gases which contains H2S.The sorbents prior to and after sulfidation were examined using SEM and XRD.The results showed that the sorbents may effectively reduce the sulfur containing impurities in the coal gases under the conditions studied
