Study on the Biomass Used as Coal Briquette Binder

The direct combustion utilization mode of coal causes very serious air pollutions especially for SO2 pollutions in China.Clean coal briquette technology as one of the major clean coal technologies can reduce the SO2 emissions about 40%~70% efficiently.Bio-coal briquette as a type of new product of coal briquette have better application prospect.Coal briquette binder,however,becomes one of the key problems because of the binders developed at present have the problems such as incomplete combustion,poor waterproof performance,low strength,which restricts the popularization and application of bio-coal briquette.Therefore the development of binder with high efficiencies is very important to the applications of bio-coal briquette.In this study,wheat straw,corn stalks,sodium hydroxide and inorganic magnesium additives as major raw materials were used to make bio-coal briquette and compressive strength,falling strength,soaking strength,ignition temperature and burning velocity of the bio-coal briquette were tested.The results show that bio-coal briquette has higher mechanical strength when sodium hydroxide solution concentration is 1.0%~2.0%.The mechanical strength increases and ignition temperature reduces with the biomass quantity increasing when the biomass adding mass ratio is 2%~20%.The waterproof property,however,become bad with the addition of biomass.The additions of compound additives,however,make the waterproof property become superior
