HYDROGEN PRODUCTION FROM CHICKEN DUNG BY USING HYDROTHERMAL REACTION
We have reported that hydrogen gas could be produced by hydro-thermal reaction of biomass wastes such as cellulose, chicken dung, etc. However, pollutants containing hetero-atom compounds would be produced, when biomass wastes containing hetero atoms are decomposed through hydrothermal reaction. It is important to know relevant reaction mechanisms and to obtain optimum conditions for suppression of pollutants generated under the hydrothermal reaction. In this study, we selected O-phospho-DL-serine as a model compound for determination of optimum conditions. Then, the optimum conditions were applied to real bio-waste “chicken dung. Under the optimum conditions (i.e. 400℃, over 21MPa, with addition of 3mmol Ca(OH)2), hydrogen gas was mainly produced in the gas phase, the pollutants of hetero-atom compounds were dissolved and trapped in the liquid phase, and a valuable material, “hydroxylapatite was produced in the solid phase. Additionally, the determination of dioxin from the hydrothermal reaction under the various experimental conditions was carried out by GC/MS. Dioxins were hardly detected in the liquid and solid phases. The value of total toxic equivalent quality is found to be less than 0.1 pg dm-3 of the regulation level.
