DETERMINATION OF REACTION KINETIC PARAMETER OF EFFECTIVE MICROORGANISM IN BIOGAS PRODUCTION FROM TAPIOCA SOLID WASTE
Energy crisis of fossil fuel has motivated researchers in a new idea searching to find alternative energy as replacement of petroleum fuel where biogas was known as one of the alternative energy. Together with manure as inoculumn, tapioca solid waste with hundred of tons production per year could be used as source of biogas production, because of the organic carbon content of it. The aim of this research is to utilised tapioca solid waste as source of biogas production by using combination of Effective Microorganisms (EM) and a-amylase enzyme. The experiments were carried out in a laboratory scale batch bioreactor of working volume 16 litre liquefied solid waste. Pretreatment of this process was starter preparation, EM activation and 0.1 % v/v a-amylase-enzyme for starch liquifaction. The following step was fermentation of substrate in an anaerobic digester with constant temperature of 500C using procedure such as : feed ( starter was mixed by liquified solid waste with ratio 1 :2 ) was filled in a reactor, and variable Effective Microorganism (EM) of 0% (v/v), 0.5%(v/v) dan 1% (v/v) was added. During fermentation, pH of substrate was kept constant of 7.0. MLSS, MLVSS, COD, gas volume, gas composition and heating value of biogas production was analised. The experimental result showed increasing of Effective Microorganism (EM) caused increasing of volume and methane concentration in biogas. The increasing of biogas volume with EM 1% (v/v) was 85.71% and increasing methane content with EM 1% (v/v)was19.31%.Kineticparameterof variabelEM1%was μm=0.1383day -1,Km=9927.686 mg/l and yield=1.384 mg MLVSS/mgCOD.
