THE INFLUENCE OF THE ORGANIC COMPOUND CONCENTRATION ON THE BIODEGRADATION PROCESS OF AMINOPOLYCARBOXYLATES USED IN THE LIQUID FERTILIZERS PRODUCTION
The aim of the investigations was to determine the degree of biodegradation of APCAs (used in production of liquid fertilizers-EDTA, DTPA, HEEDTA, NTA, and S,S-EDDS, MGDA and GLDA as potentially substitutes for EDTA, DTPA, HEEDTA and NTA) and the estimation of influence of organic compound on the biodegradation process. Biodegradability was determined by carrying out the aerobic biodegradation of the tested chelating agents in water medium under static test conditions in accordance with OECD test 301E-Modified OECD Screening Test. S,S-EDDS, MGDA and NTA were characterized by total biodegradability, and GLDA can be treated as readily biodegradable, independent of initial concentration of compound. EDTA, DTPA, HEEDTA biodegradation tests proved nonbiodegradability of these compounds. S,S-EDDS, MGDA and GLDA could be applied as new effective and environmental friendly chelating agents.
