ADSORPTION OF Pb2+ FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS BY TWO MODIFIED ORANGE PEEL ADSORBENT

In this study, two modified orange peel adsorbents: SOP (modified by NaOH) and SCOP (modified by NaOH+CaCl2) were prepared. The adsorption conditions including pH value, metal ion concentration, adsorption time, temperature and coexist metal ions on the Pb2+adsorption by SOP and SCOP were investigated. Based on the experimental results, for both SOP and SCOP, the adsorption processes could attain equilibrium within 20 minutes and kinetics are well fitted by pseudo-second-order equation; adsorption isotherms are found to fit Langmuir model better than Freudlich model and the maximum Pb2+adsorption capacities by SOP and SCOP are obtained as 185.2 and 208.3 mg/g, respectively. Temperature show negative effect on Pb2+adsorption by SOP and SCOP and related thermodynamic parameters, the standard free energy (□G0), enthalpy change (□H0) and entropy change (□S0) are calculated. Coexist metal ions (K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+) have little effect on the Pb2+adsorption by SOP and SCOP.
