BIODRYING OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE AND SEWAGE SLUDGE OF HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT
The biodrying process of sewage sludge and organic household waste of high moisture content in order to obtain biofuel of the satisfactory energy content is discussed in this work. To carry out the autothermal drying process a horizontal tubular reactor of volume 240 dm3 insulated with polyurethane foam was developed and tested. The mixture of organic fraction of municipal solid waste and hydrated sewage sludge as well as dehydrated one of the initial moisture content equal to about 860 g kg-1was used as an input material. In the performed biodrying experiments moisture content removal reached the level of about 50% for the processes with both hydrated and dehydrated sludge. While biodrying the temperature of waste mass attained the value of about 48℃. On the basis of the measurements of temperature and moisture content of the waste mass and air humidity and temperature during biodrying processes the water balances were calculated and discussed. Heat balance of the reactor was also drawn up, and the heat of biological processes was determined. The specific heat of dried waste was determined experimentally in the calorimeter. The heat of combustion and calorific value of dried waste mass were similar (about 16 kJ g-1) for the processes with both hydrated and dehydrated sludge.
