VALORIZATION OF SEWAGE SLUDGE AND AGRICULTURAL WASTE INTO FUEL
The implementation of Council Directive 99/31/EC UE and Council Directive 86/278/EEC led to the fact that in the EU states there was a fundamental change regarding the utilization of sewage sludge resulting from the process of waste water treatment. One of the preferred methods of sewage sludge management involves its application in thermal processes. However, this type of waste due to its physical and chemical properties and, in particular, the high moisture content and greasy consistence requires an adequate processing prior to its use for thermal processes. This paper focuses on the presentation of research concerning the application of sewage sludge along with agriculture residues and generation of a fuel for the use in thermal processes on its basis. This paper presents the composition of the fuel along with the method of its production. The fuel formed in this way was subjected in order to determine its energetic and physical properties. Among others, the following parameters were determined: low and high heat value, content of ash and volatile matter, elementary analysis as well as drop strength, absorbability and water resistance. The analysis of the energetic properties has indicated that the fuel generated on the basis of the sewage sludge and unclassified oats grain can be applied in the processes of combustion and co-combustion with coal. This fuel is characterized with adequate properties enabling its transport and storage.
