CHARACTERISTIC OF LEACHATE IN AEAROBIC LANDFILL BIOREACTOR
Leachate characteristic is employed as one of the criteria to evaluate the degradation acceleration of aerobic bioreactor landfill, a promising alternative to restore MSW dumpsite. In this paper, to obtain the characteristics change of leachate in aerobic landfill bioreactor, A laboratory-scale aerobic bioreactor landfill, with 800 mm diameter and 2100mm high, was set up to explore the evolution of landfill leachate characteristic. The whole waste was divided into three layers from top to bottom. Air injection system and leachate recirculation system were used. The moisture content of waste and the oxygen concentration within landfilled waste were control by moisture sensor and oxygen sensor automatically. Samples of leachate were collected and analyzed during experiment period. The volume of leachate, the pH, conductivity, total solid (TS), the volatile solid (VS), chemical oxygen demand (CODcr), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), BOD5/CODcr, TN, NH3-N, NO3N, NO2-N, heavy metals and humic acid of the leachate were measured. The results showed that: during experiment period, pH is never less than 7; The CODcr concentration decrease from 61538mg/ L to 2000mg/L; The BOD5/CODcr ratio decreased exponentially from 0.55 to 0.024. At the end of experiment after 197days, the minimal TN and NH3-N of aerobic reactor were obtained at 199mg/L and 1.5mg/L. The result of experiment indicated that about 97% organic compounds and 98% NH3-N were degraded and removed in aerobic landfill bioreactor.
