INVESTIGATION OF FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR PARTIALLY ACIDULATED PHOSPHATE ROCK FERTILIZERS IN THE AGROECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF CENTRAL EUROPE
Continuous increase in world exploitation of readily available reserves of phosphate rocks, due to a constant expansion of food production on existing farmland, induces an urgent discussion on searching for inherently sustainable technology developments in phosphate fertilizer industry. Furthermore as phosphate fertilizers prices grow in consequence of these factors it is necessary to find cost-effective solution to preserve high-yield cropping. Taking into consideration the agro-ecological conditions on territory of Central Europe, as well as profile of the fertilizer manufacturing plants using phosphate rocks modified by PAPR method i.e. to partially acidulated phosphate rocks can be an alternative solution for water-soluble phosphate fertilizers manufactured by conventional superphosphatic methods. The purpose of the research was to investigate the properties of fertilizer preparations of the PAPR type obtained under laboratory scale manufacturing process in model apparatus built from unit modular elements of the Atlas type (Syrris Ltd.). PAPR products were analyzed using analytical methodology according to recommendations concluded in the Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003 of the European Parliament and of the council of 13 October 2003 relating to fertilizers. Results confirm higher contents of available phosphorus than it results from the amount of sulphuric acid applied in the reaction. Fertilizer preparations of the PAPR type through applying smaller amounts of mineral acids than conventional SSP, cutting down the time of the technological process and its continuous nature constitute prospective alternative to phosphate fertilizer industry.
