Development of Image Analysis and Three Dimensional Visualization System for Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors

In this paper we have discussed the several techniques which were used by us to develop image analysis system for Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors. Three dimensional visualization of the tracks is achieved, which is helpful in ascertaining the depth and the shape of the track. For this three dimensional visualization of the tracks, the respective track is first of all cropped. The track as seen in the image is assumed to be an ellipse. Subsequently, the parameters of the track i.e. the length of major axis, length of minor axis, end points of the major axis, end points of the minor axis, area of the track and average diameter of the track are calculated. This is done for the ellipses found at every depth level. Standard coordinate geometry methods are used for this purpose. With the calculation of these parameters a three dimensional visualization of the track is achieved. The system also calculates the track density and total number of tracks taking a large number of images at a time.
