Application of Sliding Mode Prediction Control to AGC Systems Considering Signal Delay
Varied ancillary services in the deregulated power systems call upon a more open, adaptable and distributed communication network, which, however, has accompanied with other inherent problems, such as communication delay, packet loss and limited bandwidth. This paper presents a new automatic generation control (AGC) approach to handle signal delays and data dropouts by incorporating sliding mode prediction into variable structure control. Through building buffers in the governor nodes, the proposed scheme can compensate random delay and packet dropouts induced by the communication network. Finally, a three-area AGC system is used as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
