In Situ Removal Nutrient from Urban Polluted Riverway by Lolium multiflorum Grown in Ecological Floating Bed
Ecological floating bed systems are natural alternatives to technical methods. These are simple, inexpensive, and energy-efficient methods for treating wastewater, and have been widely used all over the world in the past decade. A mesocosm experiments system including 15 units of ecological floating bed grown Lolium multiflorum seedling were attempt used to purify the highly polluted river water in situ and collect data for the construction and operation of a full-scale ecolgical floating bed system in the future. This paper reports the results from the initial stage of our research work. Results show the removal efficiency of the TN, NH4+-N, TP, and COD was 29.86%-48.96%, 24.37%-51.86%, 19.67%32.18%, 21.55%-45.22%, respectively, when the polluted water flowed through the L. multiflorum ecological floating bed sysems from January 7 to May 18 of 2008. However, the TN, NH4+-N, TP, and COD removal efficiency was only 0.68%-2.41%, 1.70%-3.10%, 0.10%-3.72%, 0.27%-2.17%, respectively, in the CK sytem over the same time period. And the contamination removal efficiency of L. multiflorum floating bed systems from polluted river was much higher than the CK system (p<0.05).
