Simulation of Inclusions Motion and Removal in RH Refining

Steady, three-dimensional velocity fields inside the RH are obtained, then be used to predict the removal of inclusions from molten steel with the help of Fluent. Inclusion transport in RH and the influence of inclusion diameter, density and lifting gas flow rate on inclusion removal rate are discussed. It is found that inclusion removal rate varies greatly with size. Inclusions lager than 50μm are removed easier. Decreasing density causes a slight increase in the removal time of inclusions. The inclusion is easier to be removed when the density is less than 3,500 kg/m3. The best lifting gas flow rate for inclusion removal is 1200NL/min.
