The design and computerized simulation of high tooth contact ratio of face gear drive with helical pinion

A face gear drive with high contact ratio and good dynamic performance are considered. A novel approach is developed for design of high contact ratio based on the path of contact is oriented longitudinally, which can be accomplished by application of profile crowing for helical pinion and face gear tooth surfaces. The amplitude of loaded transmission errors that generate vibrations and noise are made by design of parabola coefficient αp1 of tool plunging and parameter of parabola apex u0. The coefficient η1 has been introduced as the simultaneous pairs of meshing teeth in order to calculate the contact ratio in a meshing cycle. Three techniques are considered in the paper: local synthesis, tooth contact analysis (TCA) and loaded tooth contact analysis (LTCA). The developed theory is illustrated with numerical examples. The results confirm that a gear drive with minor transmission errors and contact ratio to be about 3.0 or higher could be obtained.
