3D Non-rigid Image Registration for Open-MR Guided Pneumoperitoneum in Laparoscopic Surgery
There would be large deformation of the abdominal organs in laparoscopic surgeries when carbon dioxide gas is added into the abdominal cavity of patients. It is difficult for surgeons to detect the corresponding positions of the target organs on the pre- and intra-operative images in this situation. In this paper,a 3D non-rigid registration method was applied to eliminate the deformation of organs in order to align the two images. Our registration method can be divided into two steps. First,a global registration parameterized by a rigid transformation is performed in order to eliminate the global spatial differences. Then, the parameters of deformation are calculated in a local registration parameterized by a B-spline deformable transformation. The registration is only operated within the regions of target organs,so manual segmentation of organs was required as a pre-processing step. Our method was evaluated on the images captured by an Open-MR scanner in laparoscopic surgeries.
