The Design of Replication Middleware for Heterogeneous Database System
To protect database data against disaster such as earthquake,flood and fire,database system vendors such as Oracle and IBM DB2 etc,often provide remote replication techniques to save data copies in different paces. But these techniques can not be directly used in information systems with heterogeneous database system such as Intelligent Network. This paper gives a design of a middleware which can be applied in information systems with heterogeneous database system against disaster. To assure real-time data synchronization and high performance,the system uses the strict primary lazy update techniques. To serve concurrent database activities,multithreading technique is used to improve performance. A database interface layer is designed to hide the heterogeneity of different database systems. A replication strategy layer is designed to allow users manage replication strategies freely. A network adapter layer is designed to allow user access the middleware by multiple network protocols. The proposed system can be built within the architecture of the next generation of the Intelligent Network.
