A Virtual CNC Lathe by VRML and Visual C++
In this paper,a method to design the virtual CNC lathe is proposed. It uses VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) to create the 3D model of lathe,and uses a VRML ActiveX control to display the VRML model in an application. The Visual C++ is chosen to design the application that contains the VRML ActiveX control,and to interpret the G codes of CNC machining. A message mechanism is adopted to communicate between the VRML ActiveX control and the Visual C++ application. By controlling the parameters of VRML model from the Visual C++ application,the 3D model of lathe and work pieces can be changed by G codes .So a virtual CNC lathe can be realized by this way.
