CHARACTERIZATION OF HEMICELLULOSES ISOLATED FROM CARAGANA KORSHINSKII KOM.
In this study, hemicelluloses were fractionated into eight fractions by successive extractions with water, ethanol and different alkali concentrations from Caragana korshinskii Kom., which together accounted for 70.7% of the original hemicelluloses. The physicochemical properties of each fraction were characterized in terms of sugar analysis, GPC, FT-IR, 1H, 13C NMR, HSQC, TGA and DTA. The results showed that 4-O-methxyl-α-D-glucurono-D-xylans were the dominant component in the Caragana korshinskii Kom. hemicelluloses. Molecular weights of the fractions ranged from 10 000 to 217 000 g/mol. Comparing all fractions, it was found that hot water released smaller sized and more branched polysaccharides, which were rich in arabinose, galactose and glucose, probably contributing to pectic substances and starch. However, adding alkali in solvent enhanced dissolution of larger molecular size polysaccharides, which were rich in xylose, principally originating from 4-O-methyl-α-D-glucuro-D-xylans.
