PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF RIGID POLYURETHANE FOAM FROM LIQUEFIED BAGASSE
Bagasse was liquefied in the mixture of polyethylene glycol and glycerin as the liquefying reagent at 150oC under atmospheric pressure with sulfuric acid as the catalyst. The liquefied bagasse obtained had a hydroxyl value of 315~432 mg KOH/g and a residue yield of 0.98% at liquefaction time of 3h. Rigid polyurethane foam was prepared from the liquefaction products and diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) in the presence of various additives. The density and compressive strength of polyurethane foams were affected by flame retardant and catalysts. The increase of flame retardant content up to 15% based on the total polyol enhanced the compressive strength of polyurethane foams to maximum of 207.69 kPa.
