EXTRACTIVES FROM GREEN HUSKS OF JUGLANS SIGILLATA AND THEIR ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY EVALUATION
Four secondary metabolites of phenolics, (+)-catechin (1), (-)-epicatechin (2), (+)-catechin (4α→8)-(+)-catechin (3), and 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O- galloyl-β-D-glucose (4) were isolated from the ethanolic extracts of Juglans sigillata Dode green husks by systematic Sephadex LH-20 open column chromatography and Thin Layer Chromatography. The structure elucidation and determination of the isolated compounds were based on physiochemical and spectroscopic methods, including 1H and 13C NMR, Positive FAB or MALDI-TOF MS analysis. The antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extracts, soluble fractions and isolated compounds was evaluated by DPPH free radical scavenging assay, and the results suggested that EtOAc, BuOH and H2O soluble fractions and compounds 1–4 exhibited significant activity compared with α-tocopherol and BHT which were used as positive controls.
