ULTRASOUND ENHANCED LIQUEFACTION OF BAGASSE IN ETHYLENE CARBONATE
The influences of ultrasonic pretreatment on the morphology and liquefaction behavior of bagasse were discussed. The morphology of bagasse was characterized by SEM and AFM. The SEM images showed that the fiber surface of bagasse became less integrated after ultrasound treatment and the cell wall was damaged severely. XRD data AFM images showed that, compared to untreated bagasse fiber, some treated fiber cell wall had broken to microfibers and there were not so much lignin and extractives on the treated fiber surface. The liquefaction procedure was accelerated by ultrasonic pretreatment. The relative molecular mass distribution of the liquefaction product, however, had little change after ultrasonic pretreatment, indicating that the liquefaction mechanism was not changed by ultrasonic pretreatment.
